February 2nd, 2018 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Another glassy, beautiful day on Lake Tahoe. As the day warmed into the high 50’s I found myself overdressed. I expected a lot of boats on the water in the spots that have been producing fish lately, so I hit an area that has been slow recently to avoid the crowds. It paid off… one German Brown Trout and two Mackinaw, the largest Mac being a “teener”.
February 1st, 2018 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Lack of snow, warm weather and absolutely no wind has made fishing Lake Tahoe this winter perfect. I have logged numerous hours trolling the shallows and today it paid off. This trophy German brown trout is my highlight of 2018 so far… till the next outing.
January 31st, 2018 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- During the winter months big cold water fish, like this Mackinaw, make their yearly migration to the shallows. Catching fish at a shallow depth intensifies the excitement of the fight. Many who have not fished for Mackinaw don’t realize that when you catch them deep, 60+ feet of water, they bloat when they are reeled to the surface due to an expanding air bladder. Once the air bladder expands the fish puts up much less of a fight. This is why winter is my favor time to catch these amazing fish, they are shallow and feisty.
January 27th, 2018 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Most people tend to think that skiing or snowboarding during the winter months in Tahoe is the only thing to do. Little do they know that the fishing is great. Very few boats are out on the lake and a variety of species of fish can be caught. It takes dedication and patience, but the quality of fish make it worth it.

June 24th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- The early morning jig bit has been off so we started trolling right away on the California side. We had success, catching 7 Mackinaw. Afterwards we tried out a few jigging spots, catching one more fish. Thanks for the laughs and the Filipino jokes!
June 23rd, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- 2nd trip of the day: Since the jig fishing bite has been later I knew we would have success with this method. I headed to one of my favorite fishing spots on the California side and gave the rode to one of the boys (above, pointing to his big fish) who is the fisherman of the group. He sent the jig down and caught the prize of the day. It was fun to see his excitement. It only took us a few ours to catch our limit, releasing a lot of the smaller fish.
June 23rd, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- 1st trip of the day: Today was primarily a trolling fishing trip. I haven’t had much luck lately with the early morning jig bit, so trolling it is. We started at a spot that usually produces and were able to catch 5 fish, but number 6 couldn’t be caught. The fish kept short striking and were allusive. We decided to change fishing tactics and switched to the jig and were finally able to catch number 6, our limit. It was a beautiful day fishing Lake Tahoe.
June 22nd, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Knowing that he jig bite has been later recently, I let my clients know that we should start fishing today using the trolling method since they were wanting to take fish home for dinner. We fished the California side, catching 4 fish and missing another 3 or 4. When the trolling bit ended, we motored around to several different fishing spots to jig, only marking a few fish here and there until we got to our last spot. there weren’t many fish in the fishing hole but they were active and that is all that is needed. We caught another 4 decent sized fish then called it a day.
June 21st, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- We started the morning of trolling for fish, catching 4 and missing about the same amount. As the weather heated up, we took a boat ride to catch the breeze and check out some jigging fishing spots on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. We found a fishing hole stacked with fish but we couldn’t get them to bite anything we sent down. It is a bit frustrating to see the fish on the fish finder and not be able to get them to bite. I was disappointed that I couldn’t get my clients more fish but they told me “Danny, sometimes it is not about the fishing, it is just being out here together”. I appreciated their point of view… but I still wish I could have gotten them more fish.
June 14th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- This group was referred to me by some clients that I had taken out fishing June 3rd. We had a later start, about 8:30, and went directly to jigging on the California side. I gave them a quick jig fishing lesson and they caught on quickly so we relocated to a spot that typically has a lot of active fish. The fish were shy at first but then it was as if a switch was flipped and it got very exciting in a hurry. Everyone started hooking up all around the boat. We kept the best fish and threw back the smaller ones. I love being busy… when the fish are biting like they were today, it makes the guide look good!
June 7th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Today was a quick limit and a quick trip. We trolled early catching our limit of fish. The clients were satisfied so we called it a day. Another beautiful fishing day on Lake Tahoe.
June 6th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe
June 5th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- After such a windy day yesterday, it was nice not to have to battle the chop and the waves. It was a perfect fishing day, not too hot, not too cold… beautiful! The active schools have been difficult to find for the jig lately so we started the trip trolling, missing the first three bites then catching the next five. We finished off the trip jigging up two more for the limits.
June 4th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe– Jake’s on the Lake Fishing Derby- Today’s group is making it a tradition to come out with me for the derby. There were three prizes to win, biggest Mackinaw, biggest German Brown Trout, and biggest Rainbow Trout. The weather was our greatest foe today. Early we hit the east shore of the lake, anticipating that it would be un-fishable later when the winds picked up. We went hunting for Rainbows and Browns first, top-lining, catching two and missing two, no trout just Mackinaw. We headed up north next… catching one Mackinaw in the shallows. The wind really started to whip around 8:30 so we headed to the California side to find some shelter and see if we could locate some active fish….. Nothing. We didn’t have any prize fish this year but we all enjoyed the trip. Till next year!
June 3rd, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- My group wanted to target some Rainbow Trout and German Brown Trout first thing so we spent the first half of the trip trolling. Despite a slow start, we were able to hook into a nice Mackinaw and then a quality German Brown Trout. With these first two fish being large enough to feed the group and their families fish tacos for dinner, the trip was already a success but the day was young and I wanted to see if I could get them on some more fish. We moved to a jigging spot on the Nevada side, producing only one fish, so we moved again and found some active fish. We totaled out at 8 Mackinaw, throwing the 2 smallest back, and 1 German Brown. I enjoyed the group today… See you all in August, or sooner!
June 2nd, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Today’s trip was strictly catch and release. Today’s client wanted to trophy hunt so before it got light we trolled some big lures, hoping for a monster, but with no success. We next hit a spot that traditionally holds Browns, made a couple passes, but nothing. The lake had turned to glass making trolling less effective. Wanting to get some fish on the lines we transitioned to jigging and caught 9 Mackinaw, 5 being between 4-6 lbs. Great day on the lake and nice fish.
May 31st, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- My previous trips had taught me that the jig bit had moved to later morning, so we spent the first half of the morning top lining for Browns and Rainbows. The water was really rough and we got the one bite on the California side, but it was a nice fish, a 26 inch German Brown. My clients decided that they would like to jig and so we hit one of my go to spots and within 15 minutes we had caught four Mackinaw and missed another two. We had our limits but we still had time so we checked out a couple more spots in the shallows to see if we could locate any more Browns. No more fish were caught but we had a wonderful trip regardless.
May 27th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Afternoon Charter: My clients were a bit skeptical that the fishing would be any good during the middle of the day, but by the end of the trip their doubts were resolved. I gave the group a lesson in jigging and they caught on right away so we got to fishing the California side. We found the fish and within about 2 and a half hours the group called it quits because they had plenty of fish to enjoy for the rest of their 2 night stay in Tahoe. It is always my goal to limit out my clients… but since they were satisfied with their catch, then it was a successful trip.
May 27th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Morning Charter:
May 23rd, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- We hit the California side first, top-lining, catching 2 Mackinaw and 1 German Brown Trout. We explored a few more spots but without success so we went to the jig catching our limit. It was a beautiful day on Lake Tahoe for these return clients.
May 22nd, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- The pressure was on to get fish in the boat for this group since they had been recommended by some locals in town… but once on the water the pressure was gone and it was just pure fishing… what I love best. We went right to the jig, hitting a spot on the California side, catching the boat limit within the first hour and a half. since we had plenty of fish in the boat, we decided to troll some big lures… hunting for a trophy. No takers today but it is always fun to try and dream. It was a pleasure to have this group of four Coast Guards on my boat today.
May 21st, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Today a return client that came out last month brought his son and some friends for a surprise 21st birthday fishing trip. I let the group decide how they would like to fish, troll or jig, and they chose to jig. We went to the California side and got to it, limiting out on Mackinaw. We finished with some top-lining, hoping for some Rainbow Trout or German Brown Trout, but caught one more Mackinaw instead. I thoroughly enjoyed this group… thank you for letting me take you out fishing for your birthday!
May 13th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Last year when I took this group out we trolled for the majority of the trip, catching limits of Mackinaw. This time I wanted to give them a different experience so we top-lined and jigged. We caught plenty of Mackinaw on the jig… then the group mentioned they would prefer to catch a big Rainbow or Brown Trout so we switched it up to the top-line and were able to hook into a big old Brown Trout. This group is always fun… I look forward to seeing them again in August.
May 9th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- At the start of the trip I asked my guests what kind of fishing they would like to do. They wanted to be active, having a rod in hand, so we went right to jigging. Within the first 10 minutes of jigging we had three fish in the boat, then the bite turned off like a light switch. We gave it a little more time on the California side, picking apart the fishing hole but no action. We headed West and went to some of the go-to spots that I like but no luck. We switched it up and tried trolling for a bit, but again, the bite was off…. so we went to jigging once more and were able to finally locate some active fish and catch the boat limit. It was a beautiful glassy day on the lake… hints of summer in the air.
April 30th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- I am always looking to get my clients on quality fish, and lately they have been on the California side, but today there were very few to be found. After an hour with no bites we decided to switch states and see what Nevada had to offer. Our fist spot I marked one fish; not a good start. The second spot had fish that looked to be active but we were only able to catch one in 45 minutes. We packed it up yet again and went to the third spot…. and finally were able to catch some fish. They were lacking in size but at least they were biting. Better biting fish than no fish. At the end of the day we caught 10 fish over all… and enjoyed a beautiful day on the water.
April 29th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Afternoon Charter: The weather mellowed out from the morning, giving us a nice calm lake. We worked a shelf on the California side catching 5 quick fish then the bite turned off. The rest of the trip was spent working the area, getting a few more smaller fish and missing a handful of other bites while practicing my Russian.
April 29th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Morning Charter: While shore fishing a few days ago at Cave Rock I met this group as they were scouting potential fishing spots. We started talking fishing and they decided to come out with me and see what fishing from a charter boat would be like. They wanted an active roll in catching the fish so we went right to the jig so everyone could have a rod in hand. The first spot on the California side had fish but they weren’t active. The group got used to handling the equipment with practice. I could see they had the hang of it so we move to a fishing hole on the Nevada side and it was fish on immediately. The bite was busy and within 45 minutes the boat limit of Mackinaw was caught. We attempted some top-lining without results, cleaned the fish then headed back to the marina. It was a bit rough and cold but catching fish made it all worth it.
April 25th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Spring time has proven over the years to be excellent fishing on Lake Tahoe… both from shore and from the boat. Most of my trophy fish have been caught during this time of year. This 28 inch German Brown Trout is the result of three days of shore fishing, the first two days were cold and choppy with only one bite per day. I began to key in on what the fish were biting on at the end of the second day. The third day was calm and warmer and right before I had to pack it up, my pole twitched and instantly I knew something was checking it out. As I walked over to the pole the arch in the rod tightened and I knew I had a good one on the line, and my walk turned into a sprint. This trophy fish was definitely worth the wait. Shore fishing can be much more of a challenge than fishing from the boat, making the catch even more rewarding.
April 22nd, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Take two with the same group of guys from yesterday. We started again top-lining, looking to hook into the Browns and Rainbows. We found a big Mackinaw instead, estimate of around 10 lbs, that shook the hook off just inches from the net. We scouted a few other spots top-lining but didn’t even get a strike. We stopped off to catch some minnows, headed to the Nevada side but couldn’t locate the active fish. We moved again, this time to the Tahoe city area, and found what we were looking for, fish stacked on the bottom. We sent the jigs down and had a good time in the fishing hole with everyone hooking up, limiting out, and throwing back nice five pound Mackinaw. When the bite is like the one we had today, it makes me wonder if there is a monster fish down there feeding on all the five pounders. Perhaps one day I will find out.
April 21st, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- This trip was rescheduled due to inclement weather so it was a relief to have calm, glassy conditions. We started the trip top-lining, targeting the Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout, catching one Brown. Looking for a little more action we transitioned to the jig and caught our limit of Mackinaw. The bite was a bit slow but with consistent hookups, still making for a great day of fishing.
April 16th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- It is always great to get some locals out on the lake. My clients today were celebrating no school during spring break, enjoying what our backyard has to offer. We had to work for the fish today. They were hard to locate so we jumped from spot to spot with little success and finally found the fish on the Nevada side. We got the jigging rods out and worked the spot until we got the boat limit. It is always great to see a father and daughter spending quality time together. It was a privilege to be a able to take them fishing.
April 14th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- This group won this trip from Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center’s silent fund raiser auction last Fall. After a bidding war between two of the gentlemen above, the wives stepped in and suggested that they just go fishing together. Problem solved and funds donated to a good cause. We started off trolling but we didn’t mark many fish on the fish finder so shifted gears, relocated and tried out the jig bite. This method proved effective and we were able to catch 6 nice keepers with many more bites in between. It was a beautiful day on Lake Tahoe and a great fishing trip.
April 14th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe, Afternoon Charter- During a short visit from my cousin and her family we were able to squeeze a few hours of fishing in on Lake Tahoe. They had tried fishing many times before without success so it was great to get them on some fish and let them experience the excitement of actually hooking and landing their own fish. We caught 6 fish on the jig and had a great time catching up. See you next time you are in Tahoe!

April 1st, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Afternoon Charter: As I was wrapping up my first charter of the day the wind started to die down and the weather warmed up. My afternoon clients were excited to get fish in the boat so we headed to a spot on the California side, now accessible without the wind and caught six Mackinaw in 45 minutes on the jig. We switched to trolling to see if we might get some different species in the boat as well, but Mackinaw were the only fish biting. We got another four, the largest just a hair over 10 lbs; it hit like a truck and what a fight! It is always exciting to get a big fish on your line in the shallows.

March 12th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- My clients are always asking if my family likes to fish…. and the answer is yes. It was a beautiful day out on the water together, fishing and celebrating my wife’s birthday. The only pressure on me was to catch enough fish for a fish fry that evening. We fished off of Tahoe City and had some success, catching 5 fish, releasing the two smallest, and missing a number of other bites. Our ten year old took the prize for the largest fish (reeled in with help from her brother).

March 9th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Today I decided to try my luck shore fishing. Before opening my fishing charter business I used to fish from shore a lot… and had some success. Now that I am used to the mobility of a boat to present my bait to the fish, I found my patience tested as I sat on shore and waited for the fish to swim by… and then bite. At the end of the day I had no bites and no fish… just some drowned bait. But…. my largest fish yet was caught from shore, 21 pounds 15 ounces (March 2nd 2013)…. so you just never know what might swim by when you are exercising your patience.
March 8th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Today was a research trip to explore some new spots and experiment with big bait. A buddy and I headed out and were able to get around a dozen fish in about an hour and a half on the jig. We kept the best two Mackinaw then headed to shallower water to see if we could catch some German Brown Trout and some Rainbow Trout. With no success we decide to go back out into deeper water to experiment with some gigantic lures, hoping for a gigantic fish. We dropped the lures down into the school of fish and caught a nice 5 pound Mackinaw. It is amazing how aggressive the smaller fish can be to bite on something so big… a case of the eyes being larger than the stomach. Another great day of fishing out on beautiful Lake Tahoe.

February 24th, 2017 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- This morning with temperatures in the mid teens, all the dock lines were frozen solid to the cleats, so even though the charter had a later 8:30 start I was at the boat bright and early with a heat gun to thaw the gear. Once freed from the dock and out on the lake we headed to one of the usual productive spots and within minutes we had fish in the boat, catching five fish right away on the jig. The bite died so we explored the fishing hole a bit more and marked fish once again. This round we caught the remainder of our limit including a beautiful 36 and 1/4 inch Mackinaw. The guests on board today were in town for a Watermelon Convention… I thought they were kidding me so I looked it up…

December 30th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe-Second Fishing Charter of the day: During the first charter of the day I was texting with the client to let him know how slow the fishing was, not wanting them to be disappointed, but they opted to come out anyway, even if it turned out to be more of a sight seeing trip than a fishing trip. Since I had just scoured the California side and not marked any fish, we headed directly to the Nevada side, even though the wind promised to make it a rough trip. What a difference a few hours can make and a change in location! Within the first few minutes of jigging we had a fish in the boat. What a relief! One client was particularly successful catching 3 fish in row, and then to top it off, the monster catch of the day, an 18 lb 10 oz mackinaw. He definitely earned bragging rights today. Due the rough conditions and the ensuing motion sickness, we called it a day.
December 30th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe-Morning Fishing Charter: We started off the trip trolling the California side of Lake Tahoe, getting one bite that got away and getting one fish in the boat. All of a sudden the fish finder screen went blank… and unfortunately it stayed that way. We worked the California side scrupulously (about a quarter of the lake) but couldn’t find the fish. It has been a long time since I have fished so hard to just get one keeper with four bites total and two fish (one too small to keep). I am glad these return clients understood that fishing is fishing, some days more productive than others. I look forward to giving them a more exciting trip next time they are in Tahoe.
December 29th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- So great to get back out on the lake after more than a week of no fishing due to weather and the holidays. We started out trolling in California waters, catching 3 fish. The fish became scarce so we spent some time trying to locate a good spot to jig. Eventually we were able to find some more active fish and the clients were able to catch their limit of Mackinaw.

November 22nd, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Always fun fishing with my friend Bob and family. We started trolling catching 6 fish for 8 bites. Afterwards we switched over to jigging, catching two fish in the first spot then moving to another spot. That proved to be where the fishing was hot… we caught over 25 fish in a matter of 2 and a half hours. See you next Thanksgiving!

October 23rd-November 2nd, 2016– The only thing that is good about not having fishing charters booked is not having to cancel due to weather. I was thankful that my schedule was clear because the weather was not fishing friendly with 3 systems coming through with wind, rain and snow. Looking forward to clear skies and calm water again.
October 22nd, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- The past week had been good for big fish so I was excited to have this return client on board with some of his friends. I had a few spots in mind but once there I couldn’t mark any fish on the fish finder. We continued on from spot to spot and still no fish. Our hunt took us all the way to the south east side of the lake where we finally had success. We caught 8 fish total for the day, keeping 4. We covered a lot of water but ended up with a quality Mackinaw in the end.

October 19th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- I got a call early this morning from this couple wanting to go fishing later on in the day. We threw a last minute trip together, leaving the dock at 10:30. I already knew where the fish would be, and what they would be biting on, so we went right to jigging, catching right away. We hit a lull so went looking elsewhere for schooled fish without success, so we returned to our original spot, catching our limit, with the icing on the cake being the double digit Mackinaw. Happy Birthday Neil! “Poppin’ Bottles” and catching big fish!

October 10th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Morning Fishing Trip: We didn’t even waste time trolling this morning but went straight to jigging. We had our limit by 7:30 am, with a 14.01 lb Mackinaw kicker. We had plenty of time left to target Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout but without success, not even marking them on the fish finder. I hope to have these clients back next year… we had a great trip and caught some amazing fish.

October 4th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Today the winds were predicted to be 4 mph but in reality were blowing 10 to 15. We started the trip trolling, battling the wind the entire time to stay on course and pass the lures by the fish correctly. We were able to catch one fish for 3 bites. With the trolling bite being so slow we were ready to jig. We checked out two spots on the Nevada side of the Lake, marking some fish but not finding the large schools that I like to see. With the weather and season changing and the fishing being so slow I think it is time to rethink my fishing strategy and find what the colder weather fish are interested in.
October 2nd, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Today’s Charter was cancelled due to a lake wind advisory. Thankful to reschedule for Tuesday the 4th when the weather is expected to calm down.
September 29th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Fun day on the lake with two brothers. They were interested in toplining for Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout. I let them know it was a bit early in the season for the trout, but they were interested in learning the method and giving it a try anyway. We put forth a good effort, toplining around Tahoe City for the better half of the morning. No bites. We decided to go jigging to at least get some Mackinaw in the boat… but yet again, no bites. With no fish and the trip coming to an end, we decided to troll big lures… and finally were able to catch. We ended the day with a double hookup of Mackinaw.

September 25th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- I had a suspicion that today’s fishing charter might need to be rescheduled due to Easterly winds. I woke up at 3 am to assess the conditions and knew right away when I heard the gusts in the tops of the pines that I would have to cancel. Thankfully I had local clients that were able to reschedule. I look forward to taking them out when the conditions improve. I was glad that these clients took my advice not to get their fishing licenses until the day of the charter so that they would not lose out on the $15.12 one day license fee. Always a good idea to get your license on line or call it in, the morning of the trip, since weather can be unpredictable.
September 24th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- We had plenty of bites trolling early but only caught 3 fish for the nine bites. When the fishing slowed down we switched methods, heading for the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe to avoid the East winds. When the winds are out of the East I call them Beasterly winds… because they can be a beast to contend with while fishing. The weather reports can never quite peg what the conditions will be when the winds come from this direction. A 4 mph prediction can, in reality, be 15+ mph gusts. Anyway, we found some shelter from the wind up along the Eastern shore of the lake, tried multiple fishing holes, and were able to jig up one more fish. The wind kept pushing us out of position and off of the fish. The weather was difficult but the company was good with plenty of laughs between friends.

September 22nd, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Today was a private fishing charter for a client who is now retired and wanted to learn different trout fishing techniques. We primarily did deep line trolling using various lures and depths. I like to share what I have learned about fishing Lake Tahoe with those who are interested and enjoy seeing them perfect their own fishing styles. One thing about fishing… the more you do it the better you get and the more comfortable you become with the equipment and the environment. We caught plenty of fish, releasing the smaller fish and filleting the larger for dinner.
September 19th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe-This couple has fished Lake Tahoe in the past and were less than satisfied with their previous experience. I was thankful that they were open for another try and chose me to show them how great fishing Lake Tahoe can be. We chose to troll for the duration of the trip, picking up fish here and there and swapping stories as we went. It was a laid back trip with boat limits by the end of the morning. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect fishing day with calm waters and beautiful blue skies.
September 18th, 2016 Reel-Letless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Today was the all important oil change and basic boat maintenance day that ensures everything runs smooth when I am fishing with clients. After the maintenance I went out for a bit and trolled some big lures to see if there might be any big fish feeding. No luck today… but still a beautiful day on Lake Tahoe to be fishing.

September 15th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- First fishing trip of the day: We started off the morning trolling catching 5 fish and missing 2 with some short strikes in between. After that we tried our luck jigging. I wanted to show my clients a different fishing method to keep things interesting and see what method they preferred. Some people prefer trolling, liking to kick back and relax while waiting for the fish to bite, others like the constant activity of jigging and the sensation of feeling the fish strike the lure. We had some in each group on board today. It was great to be able to provide both fishing styles to make everyone happy. We caught 3 fish for 3 on the jig, putting us at our boat limit.
Second fishing trip of the day: The fishing slowed down around 9 am this morning, making this second trip of the day a challenge being that it departed the dock at around 10:45. We started out jigging, hitting all the schooled fish I could find on the fish finder, but with meager results. The fish just weren’t biting. We gave it an hour and a half, moving from spot to spot then decided to try our luck trolling. I put my go to fishing lures on the line that the fish usually find irresistible… but just two short strikes, then finally, a fish on! I almost kissed that fish I was so thankful. I was thinking this trip would be the one where I went back to the dock empty handed… but not today.

September 13th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- There are few days that I am glad that I am not out on Lake Tahoe fishing, but today was one of them. The wind was gusting from the South West causing the waves and chop on the North side of the lake to reach substantial heights. I have a great boat and great gear but it would have been nearly impossible to stay over the fish today had I gone out. I was thankful that I did not have a booking that had to be cancelled. Perfect timing to have a day with the family.
September 12th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- Ahhh…. a day off… and I am still thinking about fishing. What will they be biting this Fall? What depths? Color patterns, lure size… blah blah blah! My wife has diagnosed me with OCFD (Obsessive Compulsive Fishing Disorder). All I can say is that I am a blessed man to love what I do every day. Can’t wait to get back out on the lake.
September 11th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe- The group today made the drive to the north shore of Lake Tahoe from where they were staying at Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center on the Nevada side of South Shore Tahoe. We started trolling on the the California side, hooking the first fish within a few minutes of having the line set. The fish got off and then we hooked into a big fish and got it to within 50 feet of the boat before it shook the hook loose. We continued trolling with a few short strikes, catching a fish here and there. When the bite slowed we headed to the Nevada side and checked out a few fishing holes catching 2 more Mackinaw jigging. Everyone caught with the lady getting the two biggest fish… overall a great day spent on the lake with this group.

August 31, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Today we were on the hunt. You may have gathered that the hunt was unsuccessful due to the lack of an accompanying photo. We trolled some custom baits to see if the big fish might be interested. A few fish were caught, 2 fish for 5 bites, but not the size and quality that we were hunting for. My client wants a big fish for his wall…. we will have to make that happen another day.
August 30th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Great to get last minute bookings. I was happy I was available to take this couple out. We started trolling early, trying two different sized lures, one on each side of the boat. I was surprised that the smaller lure had more bites and caught the largest fish. Sometimes you just don’t know what the fish will be interested in. We had our share of bites while trolling and caught a few, then switched to jig fishing. 3 more fish were caught jigging. We released the smaller fish and were happy to have 5 nice keepers.

August 24th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: This group was more about the experience than the quantity of fish. They only wanted to keep a couple fish for dinner so I focused on locating the best quality sized fish for eating. We started off trolling then moved to jigging. The group caught 2 fish for 2 bites trolling and 2 fish for 3 bites jigging, all Mackinaw.

August 22nd, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Wow, a day off! This must be the start to the slower season when schools are back in and the tourism slows down at Lake Tahoe. What many people don’t know is that the fishing actually gets better once the hot days of summer have passed. I took the opportunity to do some much needed shopping for fishing supplies (lures and line) and some shirts that would keep me cool and block the intense high altitude sun. I found some Under Armour and Huk Fishing shirts to do the job. I look forward to being back out on Lake Tahoe tomorrow doing what I love to do.

August 20th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: I had a great time with these self proclaimed “redneckish” brothers. Nothing like a little sibling rivalry to make the trip exciting. We started off early with a double hookup right before sunrise. We went four fish for five trolling then switched to some bigger lures to see if we could get lucky with a trophy fish. Since the big ones weren’t biting we switched to jigging then caught another three fish ending the trip with another double hookup but had to release one fish to maintain our limit. Happy Birthday Robby!
August 19th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: This was the second trip out for this father and son duo in two weeks. They wanted to get their fishing time in before school started. We caught some quality sized Mackinaw trolling early in the trip. After switching to the jig we easily caught our boat limit. Thanks for spending your last days of summer out fishing with me on Lake Tahoe.
August 18th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Mid-Morning Fishing Trip- The fish made us work really hard on the onset of the trip. We caught 1 fish for 2 bites in the first two hours! There was a lot of time spent searching for active fish, first Tahoe City, and all around that area, then back to the area we first fished then finally, at the last spot we tried two more fish were caught. The wind picked up around 2 pm adding an extra challenge to our fishing day. Even thought the fishing wasn’t as exciting as it could have been, I thoroughly enjoyed the two young men I had on board. Thanks for the laughs and the King of the Hill impressions.

August 17th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Sometimes it is not about the fishing, which was a good thing today, since the fishing was slower than normal. This trip was about sibling bonding. The group on board today were in Tahoe for a small family reunion at Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center across the lake. One of the family members came out with me last year with some friends, and decided to bring the family this time. We caught three fish and lost two or three more. More importantly it was a memorable time spent with family. Irene, you can adopt
me any time you want!
August 16th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: We started the trip by trolling some big lures, hunting for the big one, hoping to put the icing on the cake for this family’s vacation, but without success. We switched to the jig and caught a few nice fish. It would have been nice to catch some more fish but sometimes the lake gives you just what you need and no more. I can’t wait to see this family next summer. Thanks for making me a part of your annual Lake Tahoe fishing vacation.

August 15th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Mid-Morning Fishing Trip- We broke some records today… smallest fish ever caught on my boat. The fish was smaller than the jig! We all got a good laugh out of this tiny catch, but also were able to pull in some nice fish as well. What a beautiful calm day. The fishing was much better than the morning trip keeping 3 fish and releasing the smaller ones. This group from Chicago were great to have on board. Thanks, Joey, for the Tripadvisor Review!

August 13th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Today I had my first customer ever return for his 4th fishing charter. He is one of the most devoted fishermen that I know, and he is only 16! He has a bucket list of fish to catch and has already crossed off an impressive number. We were hunting for the ONE today, trolling around with some custom baits designed to catch the monster of Lake Tahoe. We managed to catch 4 fish of nice size, but they were not the ONE. Happy hunting…. I look forward to having you on my boat again next year.

August 12th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Morning Fishing Trip- Due to the slow bite yesterday I prepared for more of the the same by making sure the boat had plenty of fuel for covering a lot of lake looking for the active fish. We jumped from spot to spot, catching a few fish here and there, and ended up with our limit. This group was all about catch and release so we released all the fish we could and only kept the fish that were badly injured.

August 10th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: We had a bit of a late start. It can be hard to rally the kids at 5 in the morning. Once we were on the water we set the minnow trap to catch what we needed for jigging later on, plan B, just in case the trolling bite turned out to be slow. We started off with one bite, getting the kids excited, then a double hook up! Everyone was excited then. There wasn’t much action trolling after that so we checked out a few different fishing holes to find a good spot to jig. The first spot we tried only produced on bite and one fish in the boat so we moved on. The next fishing hole had great action with a triple hook up to start. We moved around in that same area and were able to catch two more fish. It was a great trip for this three generation family charter.
August 9th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Today turned out to be a trolling trip. The bite was hot early then turned off around 8:30 am. We caught 6 Mackinaw for 14 bites, releasing the smallest fish. We had plenty of opportunities with the way the fish were biting, but no matter how good a fisherman you are, you just can’t catch them all. My clients on board had never learned to jig Lake Tahoe so after trolling we found a spot to practice. We didn’t catch any fish but they got their jigging technique down for next time. I love to teach those who want to learn new fishing methods and love learning new methods myself when the opportunity presents itself. One of my recent clients suggested hotdogs for bait…. I just might try it, HA
August 8th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: The first fish we hooked was a gift to the young man on board celebrating his 20th birthday. It was a nice Mackinaw, from 7 to 8 lbs. The fish put up a fight making for an exciting start to the charter. We continued to troll and boated another four Mackinaw. The bite was still active trolling but
I wanted to show my clients different methods of fishing so we took up the jigging rods and headed for the Nevada side of the lake. We caught our boat limit jigging, catching another 3 fish for 6 bites. By 8:30 I was cleaning fish and headed back to the dock. I am glad that my clients chose me for their birthday fishing charter. Thanks guys for the Yelp Review! It was a fun day.

August 7th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Second Trip of the Day- Great family from North Carolina. Our mid day trip started at 10:30 am. We fished the California side of the lake near the Tahoe City/Homewood area. There was a lot of action on the jig but the fish were hard to get in the boat with many shaking free half way up. The winds started to pick up around 1:30 pm making it hard to stay over the fish. In the end there were 6 fish in the boat with countless bites. The group sent in pictures of how they prepared their catch. It looks delicious!
August 6th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Today we started off trolling for Mackinaw early, catching 3 fish for 4 bites. The bite never quite turned on at a fishing hole that is usually consistent. We gave it another 45 minutes to see if we could find schools of bait with feeding fish but without results. We reeled in the trolling lines and got out the jigging rods. We marked a lot of large schools of fish on the fish finder on the California side of the Lake but all we could manage were 3 fish for 5 bites. The fish made us work a little harder than usual today but I had happy clients with limits at the end of the day. Check out the Yelp review from today’s clients Here

August 4th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: This morning it was all about the trolling. Once we found the school of fish we made several passes and hooked at least one each time. We caught 6 fish for 10 bites with a few short strikes. When the trolling bite tapered off we headed for the Nevada side and found a few more active fish jigging to reach our limit. After 9 nice sized fished, between 3 and 4 lbs each, #10 was tiny so it was released. At the outset of the trip the group was concerned that they would not catch enough fish for their dinner party this evening with 13 guest. That proved to be an unfounded worry. This clear, blue and calm day was a great one to be out fishing on Lake Tahoe.

August 1st, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Today was the behind the scenes day for maintenance to ensure that the fishing charters go smoothly and all equipment runs properly. I lifted the boat and changed the oil in the lower unit of the outboard motor. While I had the boat out of the water I took the opportunity to scrub the junk off the bottom which usually adds a few mph’s to the boat ride, reducing drag. I was able to modify the fish live well to circulate clean water more effectively keeping the fish fresher longer. I hate to take a day off fishing in the busy summer charter season but in the end it is worth it when everything operates efficiently.
July 31st, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: I know there will be a day in my guiding career when I have to report that we caught no fish, but thankfully, today is not that day, even though it came uncomfortably close. We had no problem finding the fish, getting them to bite was another story. Every time we marked fish on the fish finder then dropped our jigs, we watched as they scattered. This trend persisted throughout the morning. At the end of the day we had 4 bites and 2 fish in the boat. The group of four on the boat were experienced fishermen and graciously understood that some days are just off days. I hope to have them back when the fish are biting.

July 30th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Morning trip- I love it when people are as excited about fishing as I am. This couple showed up 15 minutes early for the trip. It was a great morning and I felt honored to be their fishing guide as they celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary today. Lake Tahoe was calm and glassy this morning, perfect for finding and catching fish. We spent the morning trolling, catching limits within an hour and a half. The couple decided to call the trip early and go fry their fish with some eggs for breakfast.

July 27th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe:
Morning Fishing Trip- It was an early morning bite for once. We caught and released 4 small fish trolling early on with the fish progressively getting bigger as time went by. The trolling fishing bite lasted from 5:15 am to about 8 am. The jig bite was a bit slower with one fish in the boat. A fantastic morning over all with good fish and clients with great humor. Thanks for a great day!
Second Fishing Trip of the Day- We left the dock at 10:30 for this family fishing trip and headed for the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. The first fishing spot we explored had plenty of fish, hooking two that got off the line close to the boat. We moved around the area trying to engage active fish with the jigs with no results so moved spots once more. We motored over near Sand Harbor with no results then headed to Chimney Beach, catching 2 with a few more missed bites. With the fishing being so slow we headed back to our original spot to see if the fish there would bite and caught one more. Slow second trip of the day but it was still a good trip with fish in the boat.

July 25th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Guiding fishing trips is my passion and when I have a group like I had today it makes my day. All on board were excited to fish and accepted the instruction that I gave with awesome results. We caught limits of Mackinaw an hour and a half into the trip, releasing some of the smaller fish. Thanks for spending your annual Lake Tahoe family vacation with me!

July 20th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: I love return clients! I had this same group of 3 anglers last year during my first guiding season. This year the weather didn’t cooperate for their scheduled fishing trip so thankfully we were able to reschedule when the winds weren’t blowing. We tried something new and fished the Southeast shore. The fishing was pretty tough with the fish making us work really hard for each bite. We moved from fishing spot to fishing spot without much action. We decided to try our initial spot of the day one more time and this is where the fish started biting. The best part of the trip was seeing Luke, the youngest fisherman on the boat, catch his very own fish from jigging to setting the hook to reeling the fish in all by himself. His smile tells the story! Dave, best health to you. I look forward to fishing with you again my friend.

July 18th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: Lake wind advisory today with winds out of the South at 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Had to cancel the morning fishing charter and reschedule for a later date. Hoping for better weather tomorrow.

July 13th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: I had four great hunters/anglers from San Mateo CA coming to see what Lake Tahoe had to offer in the fishing department. We started trolling early and caught 4 nice keepers averaging around 4.5 lbs. When the troll bite cooled off we switched up and grabbed the jigging rods. The Mackinaw were active on the jig as well, with many missed bites but netting 2 keepers.
July 12th, 2016 Reel-Lentless Fishing Charters Lake Tahoe: We had a late start of 7:45 this morning and arrived at our fishing destination on the North shore of Lake Tahoe around 8am. It didn’t take us long to find the fish. We caught 8 for 9 jigging. This was a great family fishing charter with everyone catching, from the youngest to the oldest. This was the first fishing trip for the kids and they had a great time. I think we have some potential lifetime anglers.

Hey man,We had a great time today. Here is the drone video. Feel free to use it as you wish.
